Muir, Wood & Co., Edinburgh ca. 1815

A very rare scottish square piano made by Muir, Wood & Co. in Edinburgh. The case is made is in mahogany with multi-coloured inlays and rounded edges. Inscription on the nameboard is:

"Muir, Wood & Co.
Musical Instrument Makers to his Majesty.
Edinburgh".


Behind it is a handwritten signed with "No. 82 D. S."
There are three small cracks in the soundboard, and one at the hinge on the lid, the wrestplank and bridge are in excellent condition, pedal is missing. Keys are made in ivory, original tuning pins, single dampers. Action and hammers are in good condition,
the hammers are covered with the original leather.
The original dust-cover is still present and in very good condition, without any cracks, the serialnumber is "1577"
This rare instrument is in very good and unrestored condition.
A similar instrument is in the University Collection of Historic Musical Instruments in Edinburgh.
