Karl Schmidt, Bratislava c.1825 - 1835

Rare grand fortepiano made by Karl Schmidt in Bratislava (Pressburg).
This instrument was build around 1825 - 1835 and is in good unrestored original condition. The keyboard coverings are made from ivory, viennese action with leather covered hammers, harpsichord shape, straight strung with mostly original strings, treble strung, no metal braces, original tuning pins (2 are lost). The wrestplank and bridge are in good condition, original music stand, brass castors at the legs. The instrument is labeled over the keyboard in brass with:

"Schmidt Karoly/
Pozsonyban".

The instrument has 2 pedals controlling dampers and due corde and is handwritten signed under the keyboard. There is also an original paperlabel on the soundboard. This is a very rare and hard to fine example of a viennese grand fortepiano with a great sound and unusual original length of 200 cm (not shorted).

Dimensions: Length: 200 cm, Width: 122 cm
Compass: 6 octaves + second, FF - g4, viennese action, 2 pedals
